Today, greyhounds. Tomorrow, standardbreds.

How long do you give thoroughbreds?

The final quote in the article is pretty telling, and suggests the answer to your question is something in the neighborhood of \"not very long\" for the fringe player-tracks in the game:

Her 28-year-old son, Nick, nodded in agreement. “You really have to pay attention to the background and history of the dogs,” he said. “That’s a lot of work to do. You won’t see very many guys my age up there.”

As a fiftysomething who wants to stay in the workforce as long as possible,
nothing makes me happier than to hear from a 28 year old who hath developed a
healthy fear of hard work.
