All the blather about TAP, drugs and his six Derby potentials seems to be overrunning the other important race today. Does anyone want to venture what kind of number Departing got in Chicago? He raced about 5 wide the entire trip, finished in a good time and won easily.
OK, he didn\'t beat much, but he beat them big. Actually, this race should give pause to reflect on the La Derby, which when one considers the ground loss factor of the first two finishers (Revolutionary and Mylute) may have been the fastest prep race of all the major preps.
Those dudes beat Departing relatively easily that day and even adjusting for continued development on his part, he flatters their reps a great deal. Personally, I think Mylute is more likely to run back to his La Derby race because he had more foundation under the number he got there. Revolutionary is more of a bounce candidate going forward because his race was much faster than any he had run previously.
At this point there are 3 horses whose patterns suggest no bounce, but continued improvement. Only one of these is TAP\'s. Orb, Normandy Invasion and Verrazano. That\'s all.
