Incognito, Slow Fraction

Incognito with a solid fourth without lasix.  Brothers reported on nbc that Mclaughlin said before the race that philosphically it was the right decision (to not race on lasix) and, more importantly, that Incognito was at a disadvantage without the lasix (obviously but interesting it was stated and reported).  

Last 6 furlongs in 1:19.75?  Is this a reflection of modern breeding?  Obviously they decelerate in dirt races but that\'s pretty bad that no one could truly close into the pace.  Oxbow runs 1:10+ and ends up second.  Bizaare.

I didnt realize philosophers were training Incognito, i was under the impression they were horse trainers.

I took it as a figure of speech meaning, \"in the bigger picture\" or \"in the greater scheme of things\", etc., ..something along those lines.

It reflects a perspective that takes the future into account, not just the immediate profit potentials.

I thought it was interesting that Incognito ran without Lasix BUT he recieved the most Pre Race Medication of all the horses in the Belmont. Here is a Link so you all can see exactly what each horse recieved Pre Race.

Banamine is now standard fare 48 hours out? Except for Shug (hay , oats and water) Whether they need it or not it\'s like a Flintstone\'s vitamin.  Back in the 80\'s Banamine was to keep sore horses in training not part a a pre-race cocktail.

Yes - unbelievable - I own 10 horses - we only use it for colic or an injury that has swelling - and only until a vet gets here or advises us to use it on the phone.

Thanks for posting this! I had heard they were going to do this but forgot to try to look it up.

Adequan and Legend are simply therapeutic. I have no problem with that or the jugs (as described). I do have the same problem as many with the overuse of bute and banamine.

But what is really interesting here is that Incognito received Thelin. Thelin was developed to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension in humans, but has since been withdrawn from the market (for human consumption) due to liver toxicity. I have made a cursory attempt, but cannot yet find it on any medication list for NY or any state. Surely it must be listed though, right? It is not listed (unless I missed it) on the (NY) Rules of Racing as listed on NYRA\'s site under Horsemens\' tab, under Medication and Testing.

No, I am not a vet, not a doctor, but you don\'t have to be one to see this was clearly administered in lieu of Lasix. Out of the frying pan and into the fire...

What is the Sheik\'s philosophical stance on the use of Thelin in racehorses I wonder?

Cat-- you\'re right, the Thelin thing is a big story. I sent an email about it to some of the people I\'ve been dealing with on the drug issue, we\'ll see what happens.
