Jimbo, I am ultra consistent. Even though \"Sam\" and \"Sigh\" put on a good
show, and may have hung up Derby competitive numbers, they still have beaten
very questionable fields in both the Withers and the Gotham. I was expecting
Shug to ship one of his prospects up for the Wood, but he has had a rough go
lately on the Derby trail. Still looking for a huge field in the Wood as TAP
might ship up all of his Derby nominees in a final attempt at points.
Cal Chrome indeed ran off the screen and now might be the fastest Derby
prospect # wise. But who has he beaten? Two colts (Midnight Hawk and Kristo)
making sharp turns off the Derby Trail in the San Felipe? Tamarando? (To be
fair to me, while I did not guzzle the Cal Chrome TG Kool Aid, I at least
included this one in horizontal wagers last Saturday.)
My final word on the Derby as we approach the Ides of March: I will be
looking for a contender who a) has competitive TG #s; b) has some 2YO
foundation; and c) was attempted to be purchased by Jim Covello.
As to the Cicada (ROTW) good luck. My opinion is not pertinent as I have bet
maybe 10 races at AQ since the Cigar Mile on Thanksgiving weekend.
My two runners to bet for Saturday (affectionately known on this forum as
\"toss outs\") are both in the 6th at SA, the Great Race Place, the winter home
of the limited Richiebee bankroll. Race 6 at Santa is a MSW mile turf event,
where Richard Mandella has two second time starters: Perfect Cursive (20/1
ML) and Tizmiss (12/1 ML). At those odds will be making small win bets, using
in horizontals and putting underneath in exactas.
