Handicapping???
« on: October 25, 2013, 10:12:49 PM »
With all the talk of \"handicapping\" being prominent on the board, where is it?

Maybe I can spark a few thoughts through some questions.

What to do with Ready to Act?

Does Palice Malice move up for anyone else as a contender for the exacta and tri simply because his solid efforts have come in the face of heightened scrutiny on NYRA\'s best 3yo races?

What to do with Point of Entry?

And is anyone else wondering how Bob Baffert\'s barn does in the BC as much as me this year?

As for the two year olds, does the lasix off issue cause you concern to avoid wagering altogether or make you want to pounce on a few turf runners from Europe?

Your questions do spark my interest. Since I\'m up early/late watching F1 qualifying for the Indian Grand Prix (possibly the last) I can reflect on your questions and watch the expected Sebastian Vettel domination.

All thoughts subject to overriding risk reward considerations

1. Ready To Act - She looks talented to me useful under at a price. I expect a Euro to win, I\'ll be monitoring the price on Vorda.

2. Palice Malice - Does rate exacta potential. I\'m thinking there are too many who need to lead and consequently none of the likely leaders can get their best trip/number. Although GOD seems to always get his way and he\'s made some good horses look very ordinary.

3. Point Of Entry - Even if he had not been injured it is a Euro Race. The crowd will not discount him sufficiently (making him an underlay). But if he is 15/1 I\'m in!

4. Baffert - My most bothersome issue is Paynter\'s last race. That trip looked bizarre to me. Could BB have been trying to teach Paynter to relax back knowing he cannot press GOD. He wins that race if MMM doesn\'t run a very good one. If it was just a poor race, Paynter would not be running in this one.

Winners win, Vettel got the pole in India and I expect Baffert\'s horses will run tough in BC.

Lasix will be an issue for only a few and I think the key here is to toss those with breeding considered to be brilliant I\'m tossing Cleburne, Smarty\'s Echo, Untapable for that reason to mention a few.

4 - Heard BB say specifically that he expects Paynter to be coming from out of it, so I think you\'re exactly right. His style has been changed. Which, given likely up front battles, is not a bad thing

Graydar now going in DM. Given his lacklustre training recently this is not a shock.

There will be plenty of handicapping here...but
a whole week in advance? Not so much.

Some of you fellows could relax a little about BC.
Next weekend will get here on time and as
scheduled, I promise.

Tavasco,

The amount of steam coming from the euros on Vorda is amazing. Obviously she is very good but....

Three things to consider about her.

First, her last race that everyone is so giddy about was on a straightaway. How can everyone be so excited about the favorite in the race when she is being asked to do something she hasn\'t done before? It\'s pretty tough to translate a 6f straightaway race to a two turn mile.

Second, her figures are slower compared to a bunch of others in the race and there\'s no lasix to move her up.

Finally, its not always the euros that are most obvious that jump up in these races. Look at Flotilla last year in this race.  Sky lantern had even more steam than Vorda does this year and she laid an egg. Without lasix, the reason most of them jump up is the move from soft turf to firm turf and that\'s a very difficult thing to predict.

I definitely think euros are dangerous in the race but I fear the other two alot more than Vorda (flying jib isn\'t coming)

Good luck!

I respect your considerations and good luck with the red head. Somebody has to win - why not you?
