The real winner yesterday finished fourth, IMO. A Rod was stride for stride with CC until he gets himself in trouble, fades to last, rallies back, and runs past them all in jog out.  Horrible ride.

Castellano a bum for giving a perfect ground saving trip and then getting stopped cold by two quitters that backed up in his face.

Agreed, Castellano went from possibly having the best trip of any to definitely the worst in a matter of about an 1/8th of a mile.  Could have secured the rail down the backside but allowed Garcia on Ring Weekend that spot instead, left him no alternative once Ria shut down.

Bad racing luck. He never really had a chance to get out early. Chose to save ground and find a seam late. If not for Ring Weekend, it might have worked. Just tough luck. Hard to knock a rider with his resume.

He got stopped.  That was pretty clear.  To say he would have won is silly.   A clear third for sure, and maybe second.  

Interesting how \"simple\" the Preakness usually works out each year. (Not red boarding as I didn\'t cash, I played social inclusion).  Simple meaning the derby horses dominate every year.  And every year we look for new shooters.  Surely 2014 would be different as only two derby horses ran back besides chrome.  And both were also rams in the derby.  What happens?   Chrome wins, the derby horses run 2-4 and certainly would have been 2-3 if not for a rough trip.

The \"new shooter\" angle works once a decade or more.   Bernardini was a freak and just got a late start that year.  The only others I can remember are red bullet and touch gold, who might have one except for awful stumble

Now, as \"simple\" as the Preakness usually is, the Belmont is a completely different story.  D\'tara, Commendable or Drosselmeyer anybody?   Ugh.

JC caused a lot of his own \"luck\", should have gone to the rail as soon as they hit the backstretch, or at least make it where no one else can get position inside of him.  As it was he did end up going to the rail AFTER Garcia cleared with RW.   Just a bad tactical error that you wouldn\'t expect from that type of rider.
