Santa Anita

Happy Holidays to all and a BIG Thank You to TGJB and crew for the yearly week of free data, it\'s always a nice touch.

Santa Anita opens with 2 great race cards on Friday and Saturday; full fields and quality abound. The Saturday Gulfstream card is none too shabby as well with 3 nice stakes. If their not careful I may regain some interest in the game again year round!

The late pick 4 and or pick 3 at Anita tomorrow looks like a great opportunity to me with Shared Belief as solid single sandwiched in between 2 very competitive full fields on the green with no rain in sight.

Pick 4:

6th Taris will be 8/5 or less and that\'s the last thing I want in a pick 4 sequence with Shared Belief so I\'ll not use him in the 4 and save with the pick 3 should he beat me. He ran a first out very fast 4 as a 2yr old and it knocked him out for 8 months, he could bounce 4-5 points and still win this race unless Stonetastic runs back to his Spa race but too many bad things happen to those who run big numbers early as well as already out running his pedigree by a lot number wise. Stonetastic has had time and I don\'t think Breen sends this one west unless he is kicking down the walls of his stall. JoJo Warrior is the other use with many chances he creeps forward as has some fast numbers on the dam\'s side to run to.

7th I\'m going to use 5 in here and could probably easily make a case for 8 of them. Talco slowly moves forward is from a sire whose runners get faster with time and I smell a breakout here at the end of his 3 yr old season so we will press a few more tickets with this one on top and make a little win bet at a price.
Heart to Heart, Long on Value, HR Kitten and Tonito are the others I\'ll use hoping for a price but Heart to Heart can\'t be tossed as the favorite and may make a nice exacta play with Talco?

8th All Shared Belief

9th Dea\'s first effort is a complete toss, not a lot of data yet on Midshipman as a sire but no reason to think his runners won\'t grass, some very fast siblings on the dam side, Casse brings this one back quick and draws inside at a nice price I hope. Indian Princess is the other must use so these 2 will be our major tickets with savers on Pauine\'s Love, Bourbon Rose and Autumn Flower if she draws in.
Dea will get a win bet if the horizontals aren\'t alive as well as an exacta play with Indian Princess.

Good luck to all,

Frank D.

Nice bit of racing on both coasts tomorrow.

In race six I agree about Taris, I want no part of this filly at low odds.  Thank You Marylou looks interesting to me.  There seems to be a fair amount of speed lining up here.  Maybe she gets a nice closing trip here.  Sam\'s Sister is lightly raced and her start two back puts her in the same group as he likely favorites.

The turf race is a ballbuster, seems to be some speed signed here.  Home Run Kitten, Long On Value and Talco to unwind a sustained run at the fading leaders?

I\'m a bit gunshy on Shared Belief.  If he runs his usual effort then he jogs, however he is cutting back from the 10 furlongs to 7 and a well known rough trip.  I\'m thinking (bad idea) that Cithu may try and sneak away with it, that last race was a nice field too.  Kind of banking on the track and distance experience here.  Midnight Hawk sheds the blinkers and has three nice works since the last effort as well.

Doing the pick 3 to preserve my sanity, that last race defies words.  Here is my caveman ticket for everyone to point and laugh at later.

3,7,9/9,10,12/2,6,8

6th:
Looks like plenty of speed lined up, and breaking from the rail Taris has the big number last race. Stonetastic ran a similar number 3 races ago, and hasn\'t come close to it in 2 subsequent races. She also has more races under her belt than Taris, who is relatively lightly raced. . Assuming Taris does the same thing, backing up to around a 3, which of the others can run that figure?

Thank You Marylou is a closer, has run a 0, and ran a respectable 3rd (TG 3) in the BC . She has a bit more rest coming into this one than her previous 2, and if she can work out a trip is playable at anything close to her 6/1 ML as long as the track isn\'t playing towards speed. More Complexity has a nice forging pattern but seems just a bit slow. Sam\'s Sister ran a good one over the track 2 back in her only dirt race (TG 3 1/2). Were the 3 other mediocre efforts due to the surface?

I\'ll toss JoJo, 4/1 ML with speed in a race filled with it, even though her last is very good and has a nice pattern. Reluctantly.

Playing 1,3,9. I hate leaving in Taris, but between the 2 big number fillies, like her better, and hate getting beat by the fastest horse. If I whiff here, will play the late Pick 3, as I think races 7,9 have a great chance at a price.

Race 7:
Red Outlaw is my top pick, a nice forging pattern with more than enough number power. Anything remotely close to the 6/1 ML makes him a solid key. Alert Bay just popped a 3 after a series of 6s. Trainer is very good with the surface switch and is a must use at 6/1 ML. Tonito M got down to a TG 2.5 2 back, last race regressed 2 pts to the same number 3 back. Running back to his best, albeit on a different surface, makes him another that is a must use at 10/1 ML. Heart To Heart has run a series of 4s, and as the favorite would love to toss as he can certainly be beat. Solid series of races. Long On Value is our BC weekend hero, and can\'t be tossed, and I agree with Frank regarding Talco.  A little slow but a nice pattern that with a forward move can be right there.

Playing: 2,4,6,10,12.  Tossing HTH, and hoping to get a price here.

Race 8:
I\'m trying to find a reason to play anything other than Shared Belief. I love beating the favorite as much as the next guy. But I\'m having a hard time talking myself into any other horse here. Chitu is the only other horse I can see winning, so he\'s on the ticket.

Playing: 2,8.  If SB gets a clean trip, I don\'t see him losing unless Chitu gets loose.

Race 9:
Indian Princess has a nice last dirt number, trained by a guy that is very good turf/dirt. Also using Elle Sueno: couple nice sprints with decent enough figs, ready for 2 turns. Foolish Ways: solid connections had her ambitiously placed in last, and she was off a bit slow in her first race stateside. Obviously a softer spot here and I think she runs a very solid race today.   Scattagirl - nice last race routing after a debut sprint.  Speed and fade last time gives her a license to hold on much longer this time, with a very solid turf rider in the irons (Kent D).

Playing: 5,7,9,10

50c P4: 1,3,9/2,4,6,10,12/2,8/5,7,9,10 = $60

For what it\'s worth-- looking at the same reasons you cite, plus a couple of others, I prefer Stonetastic to Taris. I think the fact it\'s been longer since the huge effort is a plus, not a debit. Also, she was shipping cold/warm in the BC (not now), and the trainer switch for Taris is a negative (not because of the current trainer).

Nice call on SA 5th.  Analysis nailed it, at least the verticals and just missed the big win spot.

THANK YOU MARYLOU cannot be working any better, has run fast enough a may get a perfect trip with the new boy.  Since blinkers she has been terrific walking away in the dogwood before being buried inside in Lexington and a solid try in the sprint.  Taris is a freak but going thru the sale had to take something away.  Stonetastic is talented but has never shown seven panels to be her lick.

Sir Beaufort

Heart to Heart when tried to what he was bred for; has been a monster.  Sits close, comes home in 23\'s and will take some beating at something to five.  Patriots rule may be somewhat overlooked but has a very good kick and would appreciate a big pace battle.

MALIBU

SHAREDBELIEF is a monster... but adding the best of the bafferts in Indianapolis.

9

Foolish Ways goes from a tough stake to a weak maiden and should be home in time.  Rue De Cry keeps Joe T. who has been on him in the mornings, Dea was given her debut,  Erte will try to wire and Indian Princess fits well.

Not much meat on this sequences bones>  bbb

Replaced the scratched #6 in race 7 with the #7 HTH.

Nice start to the P4

P-Dub - That is the best start possible. Also nice one for the straight and vertical players. You are in position and may crush!

Thanks Tavasco.

Nice price on that horse, Tossing the poly/turf races made that lone dirt number very competitive. Long way to go, but yes a nice start. Just a win ticket, needed the 3 to grab the place which she just missed.

That 4 get\'s up in the 5th and the analysis has a MASSIVE P3.  As it stands, the P3\'s with Shared Belief and Midnight Hawk are still pretty healthy.

I remain one of Midnight Hawk\'s biggest detractors. The Casse horse sure made the race worrisome. I could hear you across the country!

That would have been a disaster, running 2-3 beaten by a 70/1. Thought Chitu ran a great race.

I think I have 4 solid chances here, I\'ll take any of them. These 2YO turf races often times have results that come out of left field. Gary Stevens long been one of my favorites, would hate if he\'s the one to beat me.
