Florida Derby head on replay
« on: April 14, 2015, 09:48:08 AM »
I know I posted this before, but I believe this is a critical replay to see if one is going to bet Materiality or Upstart.

Has anyone seen the Head-On replay of the Florida Derby?  Do you have a link?

This race nearly killed Upstart - so maybe he was leaning on Materiality leaving the turn and most of the stretch.  If Upstart was bumping Mat the whole stretch I am willing to give Mat a pass on boring out in deep stretch.

I cant seem to get a head on replay either.  I thought when I first saw the race materiality would get taken down.  But stewards saw it differently so I have a hunch that they found no fault with materiality because of the head on view.  Upstart is one of those horses that seems to find trouble.  They were bumping some.  I would not say materiality bore out.

Xpressbet has the head on in the replay section that members have access to.

Materiality bothered Upstart significantly twice. He definitely bore out and was quickly reined back. Head On shows it clearly.

Thank you!  I do not have Xpressbet.  Did Upstart stay completely straight in the stretch?  How many paths in Materiality go out?  How many times did he weave?  Was there bumping on the last part of the turn?

I would say Materiality began to get out and looked tired leaving the turn but no bumps Upstart moved out with him.

Then as Upstart began to move on Materialism he jerked to the right about 1+  lanes and impeded Upstart. They were lucky not to clip heels. Materiality was immediately jerked back to the left.

A few strides later, with Upstart regaining his momentum Materiality wanders right and brushed Upstart. Causing a second loss of momentum.

What I saw was Upstart goes by without the incidents. Either the Jockey and/or the horse were frightened by the actions of Materiality.

I didn\'t see Upstart waver he ran straight down the stretch. Since both were so tired the hesitation of Upstart greatly affected his ability to go by. Technically little contact but I would have taken Materiality down.

Just what I saw. I think most anyone who sees the head on moves Upstart up - a warrior.

Now I will be very interested to see which mount J.V. chooses.

Thank you again!  Without Upstart getting sick he would have been an automatic bet at 20-1.
