Handicapping the jockeys......

.....1957 was also famous for a terrible jockey blunder by a great jockey. Anybody have any insight into which jockeys are particularly riding well and which jockeys should be avoided?

1957 is the year before I was born but Miff told me all about Willie the Shoe misjudging the finish and blowing the Derby after having a dream the night before about it. Rumor has it Miff bet his first social security check on the Shoe that day!

Just a young shoe shine boy in 57. Saw that race a few times on tape.My dad felt Arcaro was better than Shoemaker.

My \"guy\" Rosario rode the entire GP meet horribly. Kept sitting inside getting blocked and stopped, think he drank Kool Aid, refused to come off the rail.

Castellano the boss now even though he rides mostly Cadillacs.

 My grandfather always swore the same about Arcaro although he did like Pincay and Angel a lot in his later years and put them both a step behind Eddie.

I must say, in my experience, the Southern California jockey colony in the late 1980s was out of this world with talent.  The 10th best jockey there would be leading rider at most tracks in the USA.
