Way to go TAP.  Scratch Materiality from the Preakness.  A horse who in my opinion was a very likely winner.  At some point you have to wonder why anyone would send a young promising horse to this guy? Outside of a brilliant Borel ride he is like 0-50 in the Derby.  And now he is saying he is literally incapable of getting a horse from the Derby to the Preakness.

Horse racing is already on the slide and now we are possibly looking at a 6-7 horse Preakness.  Unless they can add a late pig or two.  We are looking at the same race as the derby coming up.  Dortmund or AP or Firing line gets out to the lead then backs up.  Trifecta will be the same three.  Maybe a $10 pay for $2.  Wow.  Lets get pumped up.

Some others would say that calling classic racing thoroughbreds \"pigs\" does not come from the keyboard of a winning player.  bbb

Agree, \"slugs\" much more appropriate.

Pletcher likes to give his horses plenty of time between races, and he achieves great results when he does. According to statistics for the past five years from Daily Racing Form’s Formulator software, Pletcher wins stakes at a 31 percent rate when his horses have been laid off 90 days or more. When the layoff is 30 days or less, his percentage drops to 21 percent. Pletcher acknowledges his disinclination to run horses with short rest; only two of his Derby starters have come back to run in the Preakness 14 days later.

Some would say that Pletcher is gutless, is 1-50 in the Derby, got lucky with the 1, and is 1/100th of the sportsman that Baffert is, whether you like Baffert or not.

Give me 1 Baffert over 100 Pletchers any day.

If the guy was never gonna run his horse he should NEVER have said he was a possible starter.  The two weeks excuse was available last week, unless the lunar calendar has changed and last week he thought he had a month before the Preakness.

Looking forward to him being 1-100 in the Derby in the coming years

TAP\'s job is not to put on a show for the masses but to do what is in the best interest of his owners and horses.  As you are on this board assume you would agree that 5 weeks rest is generally better than 2.....not sure how you can disapprove of the move.

You\'re kidding, right ?!?!?! Why would anyone send a promising horse to this guy? Because he won a million dollar race with the horse in its 3rd start.

Pray tell, who are the some that would say that TAP is gutless? Don\'t recall seeing a TAP runner duck any horses in any race.


Re entering races, remember while many owners defer to the trainer, the owner has final say. If the owners wanted Mat in Preakness, and he ok, he would run.

Better yet just run him once a year.  That would be great for racing and more importantly optimum for the horse.

LOL.  That is true.  Again I am just disappointed.  Really thought this was a great wagering opp.  

I also should never call horses \"pigs\" and should say they are \"slugs\" instead.

I am also angry that AP could have the absolute best possible circumstances for a horse in the first two legs of the triple crown.

I am also anxious for the day that Pletcher and one other camera hog trainer are completely out of training and the triple crown picture altogether.

Apparently you\'ve never heard reference to the \"New York Bred Slow Rats\".

I kinda agree with Pizza Love though, with Materiality skipping and the field winnowing down to nothing, its not looking like enough horseflesh to bet.
