Looks/demeanor/physicality are surely part of the puzzle with horses, esp lightly raced ones. Know a couple of huge players who will not gamble on a horse which does not pass their \"eyeballing\" test.Tough for me not at track very often, used to observe pre race including warm ups, spotted many sore lame-o\'s.In any event, now that multi bets all the rage, you can\'t see but the first leg.

Re Maggie, whether by coincidence or not,NYRA was asked to extend her on air pre race analysis, seems to be the case at SPA.

You can get back your Upstart money and get even for life when she runs back in a month either at the Spa or Belmont at 7F or 1 1/16. Maybe we can all quit working for a living and just bet the best Beyer # in the race? I\'m sure lil Rachel will be 3 or 4/5 in a field where some other fillie broke her maiden with a 82, or maybe even an 85 WOW!!!!

My comment about her earning a \"very nice first out figure\" was plagiarism I should have quoated Bill Spilliane who said it while checking ground watching the replay. After all what would he know? He\'s only been on track for 50 years and done ground for TGJB since day one.

Hi Frank,

Just a note on phony wide, nothing phony wide about Rachel baby(fyi Beyer performance is 85 or like TG 6-ish) Dangerous assumption that all ground loaded figs are phony wide.

Phony wide is far more prevalent in 2 turn races where they \"crawl\" around the first turn. JB/Rob recently wrote something about figs for ground loaded closers that rarely win.

Thanks Frank, I may just do that! Andy Beyer had Upstart in the Derby, too. Maybe he can join me. That was the first fig I have seen from the race-- based on trip I am guessing slightly faster than the 7s Rachel had run at this time in her 2YO year.

Sorry if you found my comment ridiculous, but until I see Upstart get back to his top at 9F, I will be skeptical.  

The value certainly will be there at the Travers if you think he was just a short horse.

I\'ve had no opinion on Upstart since the FL Derby, I did not use him in KY and did not bet the Haskell in any fashion. If forced to render an opinion on Upstart I would recommend a trainer change.

This is a horse who has run fast at 1 1/8 and Win Star paid a lot of money for their interest in him. I don\'t think Elliot Walden had the Met Mile in mind when they put their money down.
